Last week I shared Alana and Mike’s maternity photos and today I have their session with their new boys, Eli and Smith. I loooooove this family. One of my favorite things to do is shoot families in their home. (Especially families with newborns.) They’re so relaxed and personal and the photos definitely show life as a new family.
I first met Kelli and Christian back in 2010 when they were engaged and needing some photos! I was incredibly pregnant at the time. I remember that Kelli and I were wearing the same boots (except hers zipped all the way because she didn’t have elephant kankles like I did) and I really loved her style and I was incredibly excited to get to work with them. Their wedding was so amazing, one of my all time favorites… Now fast forward a few years and here they are again, this time with a baby. And still so freaking cute and stylish.
Back in February, Kristina and Ken won a session in my annual Valentine’s Day session giveaway. The giveaway is pretty simple… You just have to tell me about someone you love and why you love them and boom. Entered. I think these guys entered each other. 🙂 I had already shot their engagement photos and their wedding, so I was super thrilled to get to see them again. They decided to do their photos at home which I was super super excited about.
Something magical happens when you’re invited into someone’s home to shoot photos. Everyone is always at ease, happy, excited. We have fun. We laugh. We listen to your music. But the most magical thing of all is that I usually leave with new friends. When you let someone into your home, you let them into your life. The results are always so honest and typically they end up being my favorite sessions.
Like this one. And since we shot these, Kristina and Ken have already been over to my house for dinner with my family! I swear. At-home sessions. An easy way to make some great photographs and make some new friends.
I’ve been trying to come up with a list of three words that I want to define my shooting style in 2014. The first word I’ve come up with so far is: Honesty. I want to shoot honest moments with people. There’s so much pressure to be perfect in this industry and in our lives, but I think honesty always reigns over perfection.
I think this was my third time shooting the K family. There’s not much I love more than being invited into someone’s home to photograph their family. If home is where your heart is, after all. My time spent with this family captured all those marvelous H words: Home, heart and honesty.
